Both Redeemer Women's and Men's Volleyball teams will be making a case to be included in the OCAA Provincial Rankings after sweeping away the 5th and 6th ranked Sheridan Bruins on Saturday. The Men's team handled the home team with ease, winning 3-0. The Women's team needed a few more sets to close out their opponent, winning 15-11 in the 5th set.
Both volleyball wins added to a pretty good couple of days for Redeemer Student-Athlete's. The Royals Basketball and Volleyball teams were a combined perfect 5-0 in all competition as Redeemer swept through their opponents.
In the Women's match, Redeemer jumped out to a 1-0 lead winning the first 25-21. From there, both teams exchanged back-and-forth blows leading to a 5th a final set. The Royals played well down the stretch, closing out the match and defeating their first ranked team of the season.
The Women's Volleyball team moves to 2-1 in the OCAA West.
After taking a very close first set, 27-25, the Men's team cruised to a 3-0 win with back-to-back 25-20 set wins in the 2nd and 3rd.
For the Men, it was their first win of the season after dropping their first two to St. Clair and Conestoga.
Next up for Redeemer will be a tough test on Friday in the Volleyball Home Openers. The Royals will welcome the visiting Niagara Knights in a doubleheader starting at 6pm. Niagara's women's team is off to a strong start with a perfect 3-0 record and appears to be a Championship contender in 2016-17.
On the Men's side, Niagara sits with an identical record to the Royals at 1-2.
