Redeemer men's soccer drops NCCAA regional semi-final to top ranked Redhawks

Rochester, NY - The Redeemer University men's soccer team dropped a 6–2 decision to the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks in the cold weather conditions and snow falling Tuesday night in the semi-finals of the NCCAA Midwest Regionals .
The Royals finish the 2022 campaign with a 7-6-2 record while Roberts Wesleyan improves their overall record to 8-4-6.
Roberts Wesleyan opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Dylan Ruiz sent a through ball into Tamas Nagy, who struck an 18-yard shot from the top of the box.
The two connected again early in the second half after Hunter Salisbury played a ball ahead for Nagy, who made a strong run toward goal before crossing it to a sliding Ruiz for the finish.
Royals third year captain
Matthew Walraven (Burlington, ON) registered his 13th goal of the season in the 52nd minute on a nice shot into the top left hand corner to make it 2-1.
Redeemer second year starting goalkeeper
Adam Katerberg (Listowel, ON) came up with some clutch saves over a span of ten minutes minutes to keep it a one goal game.
The Redhawks regained the two-goal lead in the 62nd minute as Justin Robertson scored the eventual winner off an assist from Ruiz.
Redeemer made it 3-2 in the 64th minute on a goal from second year
Gerrit Oldejans (Dundas, ON), his second of he postseason, but the duo of Nagy and Ruiz was the Royals nemesis as they added another in the 67th minute to make it 4-2.
Ruiz, who holds the Roberts record for career goals with 63, converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute and then fed Nagy for a goal in the box for the final margin. Ruiz and Nagy accounted for five goals and five assists in the win over Redeemer.
Roberts Wesleyan outshot Redeemer 26-8 (19-6 shots on goal).
In goal, Redeemer's Katerberg recorded a career high 13 saves in the loss. Roberts Wesleyan starter Jared Gibbons collected four saves in the win.
