Royals men's volleyball downs Condors in five sets

ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team rallied to defeat the Conestoga Condors by the score of 3-2 in front of a strong crowd at the Redeemer Athletic Centre Friday night.

The Royals dropped the opening two sets 25-13 and 25-18, before answering with three straight by scores of 25-21 25-20 and 15-9 for their sixth conference victory of the season. With the win, Redeemer improves to 6-3 in the OCAA West Division while Conestoga falls to 1-8.

Redeemer had two players in double figures led by third year Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) who registered 19 kills, five aces, two blocks and nine digs. First year standout Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) recorded 14 kills and three aces while finishing with a .414 hitting percentage. Second year setter Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) handed out 43 assists while second year libero Carsen Grim (Langley, BC) added 13 digs in the victory.

William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) recorded his 500th career point tonight adding five kills and two blocks.  

Conestoga was led by Waler Kalin who led all scorers with 21 kills and a .543 hitting percentage.

The Royals finished the night with 50 kills and 16 errors on 105 attempts for a .324 hitting efficiency. The Condors added 42 kills with 14 errors on 89 attempts for a .315 hitting percentage.

Redeemer is now off for the holiday break and will return to action January 12th at 8pm when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
