For the 5th straight season, the Redeemer Royals Men's Basketball team is headed to the OCAA Quarter Finals. Redeemer booked their ticket with a gritty win over the Niagara Knights on March 9.
With a packed house in Redeemer's gymnasium, you could tell it was going to be an electric night. The Royals came out of the gate strong in front of their home crowd looking in control of the game with an 8-0 run. The Niagara Knights however did not let up. The Royals struggled to find the net in the 2nd quarter scoring only 5 points, while the Knights took the lead 37-23 at the half. The Royals came out gunning in the 3rd quarter to pick up the difference and led for the remainder of the game, but the Knights were never far behind. With 38 seconds left, the Knights were within 2. A clutch-made free throw from
Foster Brown pushed the Royals just enough ahead to be out of reach of the Knights. The Royals won with a final score of 65-62.
Three Royals ended the night with 3 players recording double-doubles.
Isaiah Brinkley led the Royals offensively with 21 points and recorded his first double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds.
Goran Veselinovic earned his double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while
Foster Brown also recorded a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Knights were led by Kennan Larmand scoring 15 total points.
The Royals will travel to Toronto to take on the #1 OCAA East ranked George Brown Huskies on Saturday, March 12 in their OCAA Quarter-Final match-up.
