Redeemer women's basketball falls to Falcons 86-55

Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team dropped an 86-55 decision to the Fanshawe Falcons at the Redeemer Athletic Centre Tuesday night.

Redeemer played an even opening quarter trailing by one 15-14. In the second quarter, the Royals led 30-29 with three minutes left in the opening half, before Fanshawe went on a 13-2 run to close out the half, leading 42-32 at the break.

In the third quarter, Redeemer cut the lead to six 42-36, but it was the Falcons putting together 19-2 run to take a 61-38 lead on route to their ninth win of the campaign. With the loss, Redeemer falls to 5-8 in the OCAA West.

The Royals had three players in double figures led by fourth year Jessica Angelini (Hamilton, ON) who recorded 15 points and seven rebounds. She knocked down three 3-pointers and was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. With her three 3-pointers she moves into a tie for 8th in single season three-pointers made with 29 treys surpassing Lindsay Moffat (27) and Alicia Silva (27) She also now has 597 career points as a Royal as she looks to become just the sixth player in school history to record 600 career points and closes in on top 5 all-time in career free throws made.

Second year Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) registered 13 points, seven rebounds, six steals and three assists while first year Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. First year Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) added five points and nine rebounds in the loss.

For the game, Redeemer shot 23.3% (14-60) from the field, 28.6% (6-21) from three-point land and 56.8% (21-37) from the free throw line. Fanshawe went 33-74 (44.6%) from the floor, 5-16 (31.3%) from long range and 15-26 (57.7%) from the charity stripe.

The Royals are on the road this weekend when they take on the St. Clair Saints and Lambton Lions. The last regular season game is February 15th when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers on Senior Night.
