Redeemer women's soccer rolls past Lions 5-0

ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University Royals women's soccer team scored four first half goals on route to a 5-0 victory over the Lambton Lions Saturday afternoon at David Mantel Field.

Redeemer's second year forward Emily Walraven (Burlington, ON) beat Lambton starter Lauren Goldsack nine minutes into the first half for her second goal of the regular season, making it 1-0.  At the 13 minute mark, Walraven setup third year Leah Sloots (Hamilton, ON) to put the Royals up 2-0. Redeemer would take a 3-0 at the 29 minute mark, as Sloots put a corner kick onto the head of two-sport athlete Mia Palango (Hamilton, ON). In the 33rd minute, the Royals would take a 4-0 lead, as third year Tia Lee (Timmins, ON) received a pass from third Esther DeHaan (Smithvlle, ON) and put it past Goldsack for her first goal of her career.

Redeemer closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute as second year Mya Sieders (Linden, ON) registered her first goal of the campaign. Second year Alia Breukelman (Burlington, ON) and third year Ellie de Jong (Hamilton, ON) added the assists.

In goal, Redeemer fifth year starter Lilly Brown (Stoney Creek, ON) recorded the shutout. Lambton starter Lauren Goldsack added six saves in the loss. 

The Royals outshot Lambton by a 25-0 margin.

The Royals return to action next week on the road when they take on the number four ranked Humber Hawks Wednesday, September 20. They will host the St. Clair Saints on Friday, September 22nd at 5pm at David Mantel Field.
