ANCASTER, ON. The Sheridan Bruins hosted Redeemer Volleyball on Saturday afternoon. The Royals have a week-long break following their season opener at Niagara College. Head Coach
Kate Grasman entered the weekend in search of her first win as coach of the Royals.
Saturday's action kicked off in favour of the Royals. Redeemer took a commanding set one victory 25-13 with a monstrous .556 hitting percentage. The Royals carried their dominant performance into the second set and won 25-7.
Leading the Bruins 2-0 the Royals looked to cruise to a straight-set victory, however, the Bruins were not going down without a fight. The Bruins regrouped and pushed the Royals in the third set. Despite the Bruins valiant effort, the Royals were able to secure the third and final set 25-19.
Stand-out performers for the Royals were
Alanna Heidbuurt,
Rachel Annett and
Alyson Stolte. Heidbuurt posted a game-high 12 points with a .444 hitting %. Following closely behind was
Rachel Annett dominating from the left side with 8 kills and a .357 hitting %. Senior Middle
Alyson Stolte led the Royals from the service line recording a game-high 5 aces.
Head Coach
Kate Grasman notched her first win as the Royals Head Coach. Redeemer's next match is this Wednesday, October 30th at 8:00 PM. Wednesday's match is the Royals Pink Night. Pink Night is our annual match to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Redeemer Women's Volleyball will be wearing special Pink jerseys that will be available for purchase following the match.
