Back-to-Back Home Wins Improves Royals to 2-5

ANCASTER, ON.  Tuesday Night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre hosted an OCAA West match-up between the Redeemer Royals and Sheridan Bruins. The mid-season match-up boasts playoff circumstances. The Royals and Bruins are part of a three-way tie for the last two playoff spots nearing the midway mark of the season. Sheridan, Redeemer and Conestoga each hold a 1-5 record. A win over the Bruins would give the Royals a game at hand as they continue to march through the regular season.

The Royals faced a familiar face Tuesday Night as former Royals Steffanie Blair suited up the Sheridan Bruins. Redeemer certainly had their eyes on shutting down their recent graduate and capturing the critical two points in the standings.

Sydney Drain led the way for the Royals in the opening quarter. The senior guard was responsible for 7 of the Royals 15 points. Redeemer led the Bruins 15-13 after the first quarter.

Redeemer took control of the match in the second quarter. The Royals duo down low of Talia Vreugdenhil and Mia Palango took charge of the second quarter. Palango and Vreugdenhil recorded 7 and 6 points respectively. Thanks to their efforts, Redeemer extended their lead to double digits at half.

The Royals continued their success in the third quarter and built on their strong lead. Redeemer led the Bruins with a commanding 57-39 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Sheridan entered the fourth quarter hungry to get back into the game, and that is exactly what they did. The Bruins forced the Royals into eleven fourth-quarter turnovers which sparked their offensive momentum. The Bruins scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to Redeemer's 9. The Royals were able to hold onto the 66-64 win on home court.

Key performers for the Royals were Talia Vreugdenhil and Mia Palango. Vreugdenhil posted a team-high 14 points and 8 rebounds. Palango trailed close behind with 12 points, 7 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists.

The Royals captured a critical victory over the close-seeded Sheridan Bruins squad. The Royals have now won back-to-back home games. They have one game remaining this semester when they host the Niagara Knights on November 27th.
