ANCASTER, ON. Redeemer men's soccer held a critical OCAA West match up Saturday afternoon. The fellow top-of-the-table opponent, the Fanshawe Falcons brought the rain to David Mantel Field. Saturday's match was part of Redeemer's Alumni & Family Week festivities. The Royals looked to prove themselves as a top threat in the OCAA by taking on former CCAA number one ranked Falcons.
It was a rainy pitch for Saturday's match as a gentle mist continued through 90 minutes of play. The Royals and Falcons were closely contested through the first thirty minutes of play. Fanshawe was able to control the majority of possession through the opening half.
Fanshawe struck first in the 41st minute and followed up two minutes later with a second.
Redeemer rallied and controlled the second half of play. The Royals looked to spread the ball up the wings and get fast break opportunities. Despite the Royals rally, Fanshawe held them off till the final whistle.
Fanshawe now climbs to first place in the OCAA while the Royals fall one spot behind them. Redeemer has four critical matches to close the season and will fight for every point to stay near the top of the table.
