STONEY CREEK, ON - The Redeemer Royals men's hockey team picked up its first win of the season Saturday night, defeating the Niagara University AAU DII team 3–2. The victory improves Redeemer's record to 1–3 on the year.
The Royals came out flying in the first period, putting together their best opening frame of the season.
Dawson Abrahams opened the scoring for Redeemer before
Tucker Copeland and
Asher Cabral added goals of their own to give the Royals a commanding 3–0 lead after 20 minutes.
Niagara responded in the second period to cut into the deficit, and an unfortunate own goal by Redeemer in the third brought the visitors within one. Despite the late pressure, the Royals held firm to secure the win.
First-year goaltender
Easton Hildebrand was steady in net for Redeemer, turning aside several key chances down the stretch to preserve the victory.
The Royals will look to build on the momentum from their first win as they continue their early-season schedule next weekend.
