ANCASTER, ON - Redeemer women's soccer hosted the Lambton Lions Friday night for the Royals' home opener. Lambton (0-3) and the Royals (0-2) have both got off to a slow start. The two sides entered Friday's contest eager to pick up their first win of the season.
The Royals dominated play in the opening half. Redeemer maintained possession in Lambton's half, but was unable to find the back of the net. The Reds' offence began to attack, finding the post twice in the opening forty-five minutes.
Late in the first half, the Lions delivered an excellent corner kick into the box. The Lambton side directed a beautiful header past the Royals' keeper; however, the official called the goal back.
Startled by the Lambton chance, Redeemer locked back into play and continued to control the majority of possession.
Nil-nil at the half.
Redeemer continued to dominate in the second half, but the Lambton defence steered the Royals to low-quality scoring chances. The Royals had a goal of their own called off by the official following a broken play in front of the Lambton net.
As the clock neared the ninetieth minute, Royals midfielder
Kendra Sieders, swarmed by Lambton defenders, curled a ball off the far post and away. Redeemer nearly found the answer late in the match, but was held scoreless.
The Royals outshot the Lions 23-1 in Friday's contest; however, Lambton played the Royals to a 0-0 draw.
Redeemer is back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host the St. Clair Saints. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
