Redeemer Hockey Opens Season at Gateway Ice Centre with Tough Loss to Brockport
Redeemer Hockey kicked off their home opener Saturday at
Gateway Ice Centre in Stoney Creek, ON, facing off against the Brockport Golden Eagles. The matchup carried extra weight after Brockport eliminated Redeemer from the playoffs last season in a close and heartbreaking contest.
Before the game, Redeemer welcomed Royals Hockey alumni for Alumni and Family Week. The day featured an Alumni vs. Alumni game, giving former players a chance to reconnect and showcase their skills before the main event.
The Royals started strong, scoring on their very first shot less than a minute into the game. Chase Browne scored his first goal as a Royal, assisted by Jordan Douglas and Asher Cabral, who also earned their first points wearing the Royals jersey.
Unfortunately, that early success was followed by a dominant response from Brockport. The Golden Eagles tied the game within a minute and then added four more goals before the period ended, taking a 5-1 lead after the first.
Redeemer battled back in the second period, holding Brockport scoreless. Still, the Golden Eagles regained momentum in the third, posting five more unanswered goals to secure a 10-1 victory over the Royals in their home opener.
Despite the tough loss, the Royals look forward to building on the excitement surrounding their new home arena and welcoming fans back for the rest of the season.
