ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer Royals men's volleyball team delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Friday night, pushing the OCAA's top-ranked and CCAA No. 8 Cambrian Shield in an electric four-set showdown. While the Shield ultimately came away with a 3–1 victory, Redeemer proved they can compete toe-to-toe with the nation's best.
Cambrian showcased why they sit atop the OCAA standings, applying relentless service pressure and controlling the match early. The Shield passed the ball exceptionally well, keeping themselves in system and allowing their full array of attackers to stay involved. Redeemer battled defensively throughout the night, extending rallies and forcing Cambrian to earn every point, but the visitors claimed the opening two sets 25–20 and 25–14.
The Royals responded with poise and confidence in the third set, refusing to back down in front of an energized home crowd. Redeemer made timely defensive plays and executed in crucial moments, edging out Cambrian 26–24 to spark the gym and swing momentum. The fourth set delivered nonstop entertainment, with both teams trading powerful swings and highlight-reel plays. Redeemer stayed composed late, but Cambrian closed out the match with a narrow 27–25 win.
Jack Demik led the Royals with an outstanding performance, hitting an incredible .692 with 10 kills and just one error. Despite the loss, the match stood out as one of the most exciting contests of the season, featuring high-level volleyball and physical, fast-paced play from both sides.
Redeemer now turns its focus to a pivotal midweek matchup at Niagara as the OCAA West playoff race tightens. The Royals sit at 6–7, currently holding the final playoff spot, with three massive matches remaining against teams directly ahead of them, Niagara (6–6), St. Clair (7–6), and Conestoga (7–6). With postseason implications on the line, the Royals will look to build on Friday's performance and climb the standings down the stretch.
