After a 0-4 start to the season, the Men's Basketball team is back on track with another win this past weekend. The Royals have now won 3 of their last 4 and are now sitting in a tie for 5th place in the OCAA West Division.
The Royals defeated the Canadore Panthers Saturday afternoon as they made the long trip up to North Bay this past weekend. In a tight game, the Royals grabbed the win by a score of 84-79. The win, gave Redeemer teams a 3 win 0 loss sweep against the Panthers as both volleyball teams beat Canadore on Friday night as well.
The Royals came out strong in the game and took an impressive 28-14 lead after the 1st quarter. However, the Panthers stormed right back on a huge run of their own outscoring the Royals 24-10 in the 2nd giving the home team a boost with a 38-38 tie heading into halftime.
The 2nd half was as competitive as the first as the teams went through 6 lead changes and 3 ties. The 3rd quarter proved to be the difference in the game however as Redeemer picked up a 4 point advantage 60-56. Holding Canadore off in the 4th quarter gave the Royals the win, as they outscored the Panthers 24-23 for the 5 point 84-79 victory.
In the win,
Benn Ibrahim (Windsor, ON) led all scores with 20 points.
Calvin Turnbull (Burlington, ON) and
Chris McFadden-Martin (Oakland, USA) each added 17 points for Redeemer as well.
Javon Marshall had 14 points for Canadore in the loss.
The Redeemer Royals now look ahead to a big week with the first stop being against the defending National Champion, Mohawk Mountaineers.
The women's team takes the court at 6pm at Mohawk with the men following at 8pm.
