In what has typically become one of the busiest weekend's of the year, the second weekend in October saw six of Redeemer's eight programs in action. With teams competing all across the Province, the Royals finished with a 5-2 league sport record and also placed well in tournament sport competition as well.
Soccer
Redeemer traveled to Sarnia for their second last league game of the season. The Lambton Lions hosted the Royals for a Saturday afternoon matinee. Redeemer split with Lambton as the women dropped a tight match to the Lions 2-0 while the men's team won by the same margin.
The women's team will take to the field on Wednesday at Niagara for their final match of the season. The men's team also travels to Niagara in their final league game of the season, however the Royals will play at least one more game on the weekend as they are guaranteed a playoff crossover match.
Cross Country
The Royals Cross Country team competed at the Centennial Invitational on Saturday in their final race before the OCAA Provincial Championship on October 28th.
Redeemer's Rachel Hoekstra raced to her season best finish at 8th place. Hoekstra finished with a time of 25:02, also a season best. Overall the women's team finished in 6th place. Redeemer's Justin DeWeerd finished as the Royals top runner in the men's race with a time of 32:35.
Badminton
The Royals began their season this past weekend at the Humber Cup. It was the first taste of action for the badminton team after a month of preparation.
For the Royals, highlight of the weekend included Christine Nah finishing with a 2-1 record in women's singles while
Tymon Kozlowski &
Gibson Fulmer went 2-2 in men's doubles.
Redeemer will have 3 weeks off before traveling to UTM for their next tournament.
Basketball
The women's team had another strong weekend as they continued their pre-season play. The Royals were in Belleville for the weekend competing at the Loyalist Fall Classic. Redeemer finished the weekend with a 2-1 record with wins against Loyalist and Sherbrooke. The Lady Royals improved their 2017 record to 5-1.
The men's team put together an impressive weekend despite an exhausting schedule. After dropping their match on Thursday to one of the top ranked OUA schools, Brock, the Royals were back at home for exhibition matches Friday and Saturday against Seneca and Loyalist. Redeemer ran their pre-season record to 5-1 with wins against both visitors.
Next up, both women's and men's team travel to Rochester Hills, Michigan for their final pre-season scheduled matches.
