It was a busy weekend with huge playoff implications for a number of Redeemer Royals programs. With the season coming to a close and Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton all competing this past Friday and Saturday, the playoff picture has become more clear for most of the varsity programs.
Badminton
2-time Provincial Champion, Owen Kurvits, secured his chance at a run at his 3rd Provincial title & 4th Provincial medal with a dominate performance at the OCAA Badminton West Regional. Kurvits was perfect over the two days, compiling an 8-0 record, and winning the men's singles Regional Championship title.
Kurvits will now move on to the Provincial Championship at Georgian College on February 17-18, with his eyes set on another Provincial Championship and berth in the CCAA National Championship. Redeemer's badminton star will be in tough against Seneca's Nicky Aung who is also a favorite to win OCAA Gold after finishing first at the OCAA East Regional.

Basketball
Both of Redeemer's basketball teams took steps towards the OCAA Provincial Championships on Friday night with wins against Lambton College. The Lady Royals defeated the Lions 76-63 for their 9th win of the season and secured their 2nd ever playoff spot in program history. Jessica Bosma had a career high 30 points for Redeemer to lead all scorers. The Royals guaranteed themselves a 6th place finish or better in the West and likely travel for an OCAA Crossover match. The winner of that game will advance to the Provincial Championship.
The Men's team extended their win streak to 4 games and have not only put themselves in position for an OCAA Crossover match, they may likely host that match. The Royals grabbed their 7th win of the season on Friday night against the Lambton Lions 96-83 and currently sit in 4th place in the OCAA West.
Rayvon Higdon had a game-high 36 points and 11 assists. Higdon currently occupies 1st place in the OCAA in PPG.
Volleyball
The road to the playoffs got a little harder on Saturday after the women's volleyball team lost 3-2 to the St. Clair Saints. Currently sitting in 8th place. The Royals are two points out of playoff spot with two matches to go. Redeemer will have to win both matches and hope for some help from the teams above them in the standings. Rebekah Oosterhof had a team-high 18 points for the Royals in the loss.
The Men's Volleyball team won their 5th match in a row and have guaranteed themselves a 3rd place finish in the OCAA West. Redeemer defeated the St. Clair Saints 3-2. Brady DeBoer had an impressive 10 blocks in the win for the Royals. After finishing up the season against Mohawk and Niagara over the next two weeks, the Men will then host an OCAA Playoff Crossover match on Saturday February 18th at 3pm. Redeemer will host the 6th place team from the East and the winner will advance to the OCAA Provincial Championship.
