After nearly 5 months of training, exhibition tournaments, and practices, the Redeemer Royals badminton team will finally get their chance to play for the right to advance to the OCAA Provincial Championship.
Training that began back in September will come to fruition Friday as the Royals travel to the University of Toronto - Mississauga for the West Region Badminton Championship. The Regional is one of two qualifying events (West and East) for the OCAA Provincial Championship.
On the line for each competitor in the two day event, is one of three spots in the 2018 Championship event hosted by Mohawk College, February 16-17.
Competing against Redeemer for the elusive spots are Fanshawe, Conestoga, Humber, St. Clair, Mohawk, and the host UTM. A top 3 finish in any discipline for the Royals would mean a trip to Mohawk in two weeks time.
While each team has finalized their rosters for the event, no school reveals which athletes will be competing in which discipline until the Championship begins. Redeemer will be competing in all disciplines which include Women's and Men's Singles, Women's and Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
You can track along with the Royals results throughout the event by following on social media as well as the OCAA website.
