McCulloch Makes 45 Saves as Royals Stay Undefeated

Buffalo, NY – The Redeemer Royals hockey team travelled south of the border to take on the University at Buffalo Bulls on Friday night.

The Bulls held a perfect 4-0-0 record coming into this game, so the Royals had their work cut out for them.

The Royals announced themselves early in this one. After drawing a hooking minor, Noah Wildeboer scored the powerplay goal less than five minutes into the opening period.

The teams would exchange stick infractions later in the frame, but both penalty kills would be successful as the Royals take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Royals would find the back of the net twice more in the second period. Rookie defenceman Connor Stinson buried his first as a Royal just over five minutes into the middle stanza. Slightly over a minute later, rookie forward Matthew Sikma would find his first in the navy and red.

Suddenly, a close 1-0 contest cracked open as the Royals led 3-0. And that's how the teams would end the period.

The Bulls, not to go down looking, scored one of their own about seven minutes into the third period, cutting the lead to two.

However, that's as close to a comeback as they would get. Redeemer buckled down for the rest of the game. Ty Storie would ice the game in the final moments to regain the three-goal lead.

Goaltender Quinn McCulloch turned away 45 of the 46 shots he faced, good for an astonishing .978 SV%. The teams combined for a ridiculous 90 shots in a very offensive-heavy contest.

Rookie Colton Stanley registered two assists on the last two Redeemer goals; Ty Storie added an assist on top of his goal as the Royals improve to 2-0-0.

Redeemer awaits the updating of the schedule to determine their next matchup as they look to carry this momentum forward.
