Michelle VanBerkel was a dominant force for Redeemer University College's Women's Volleyball team during her tenure as a Royal. Accumulating many individual accolades, Michelle, was twice named as a West Region All-Star and All-Star Game representative and three times a Redeemer Royal Athlete of the Month. Writing her way into the record books, she set an OCAA record for blocks with 13 single match stuff under the previous side out scoring system and one year later proved she was capable of adjusting to the rally point system setting a season record of 10 blocks in a match.

Addiing to her stellar 1998-1999 season, where she was also named a CCAA Athlete of the Month, Michelle continued to boost her overall stats and concluded her career as the OCAA's career leading blocker and sits second all-time in career kills and total points under the previous scoring system.
