Royals Record 1st Win

Royals Cruise to Opening Day Win

Kristi Van Duyvendyk scores the first goal in a 3-0 win over the Niagara Knights

The first game, the first goal, and the first win! The Redeemer Royals Women's Soccer team opened up their season yesterday at home against the Niagara Knights and recorded a 3-0 victory.

The game was the team's season opener and also the teams home opener and was the very first game  played at Redeemer's new soccer complex.

4th year Kristi Van Duyvendyk opened the scoring for the Royals in the 39th minute to put them up 1-0 and also recorded the first goal every scored at the new facility. Despite numerous other chances for the Royals, the teams entered halftime with the Royals up 1-0.

The second half saw the women's team settle down and take control of the game in front of the big crowd of Royals supporters. Two goals within a span of 9 minutes at the 63rd minute and 72nd minute by 3rd year Carly DeWeerd and 4th year Bethany DeHaan gave the Royals the breathing room needed as they cruised to the 3-0 win.

Shawna Druif recorded the clean sheet for the Royals and the coaching staff of Caell Huyer and Bryan Cawthra recorded there first win as varsity head coaches

The Lady Royals take the field again this Friday and Saturday against Lambton and St. Clair.
