The Redeemer basketball teams welcomed the Niagara Knights this afternoon in a Saturday matinee at the Redeemer Athletic Centre. Redeemer came out 1-1 as the men's team defeated the Knights in a high scoring affair, 94-85 and the Lady Royals fell to the strong side from Niagara by a score of 69-61.

Redeemer's 1st year players led the team in Saturday's home game. Lindsay Moffatt (Hamilton, ON) had a game high 22 points and added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Samantha Donald (Hamilton, ON) had 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Royals.

The Royals played the Knights tough throughout the entire afternoon, not backing down to the 5-1 team from Niagara. Even after Niagara opened the first quarter with a 22-8 lead, Redeemer was able to fight back.

However, with the match tied 61-61 late in the 4th quarter, Niagara went on a 9-0 run to end the game and extend their season record to an impressive 5-1.

The Royals record falls to 3-4.

1st year AJ Manguerra (Stoney Creek, ON) led the Redeemer Royals Men's Basketball team to it's 4th win of the season with a game high 25 points. Manguerra shot 7-9 from behind the arc as the Royals defeated the Knights in an offense-first match up.

Calvin Turnbull (Burlington, ON) added 22 points for Redeemer as well, grabbing 8 boards in the process.

The Royals took a 27-20 first quarter lead and were able to sustain it to the final buzzer winning the game by 9 points.

The Knights, winless on the season, put up a strong fight on Saturday against Redeemer. Niagara gave the Royals all they could handle as the difference between the final 3 quarters was only 2 points.

With the win, the Royals record improves to 4-3 as the team once again moves above .500.

Both Redeemer teams return to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Humber College to battle the Hawks. Redeemer returns home on Saturday to face the Sheridan Bruins in their final games of the first semester.
