Redeemer University Announces Men’s Volleyball Coaching Staff

ANCASTER, ON - Redeemer University announces Men's Volleyball leadership for the 2025/26 season, ushering in a new era of leadership and competitive vision for the Royals. This newly formed coaching staff blends alumni, proven coaching, leadership experience, and new coaching talent to guide the program into the future.

Leading the program from a strategic level will be Ed Bosveld, who has been named Director of Men's Volleyball. A Redeemer alumnus deeply connected to both the university and the volleyball community, Bosveld will oversee recruiting efforts, long-term planning, and the operational framework of the volleyball program. His appointment underscores Redeemer's commitment to building a sustainable and high-performing volleyball culture that prioritizes both competitive excellence and Christian faith integration into the student-athlete development model.

At the helm on the court will be Head Coach Wes Schilstra, who returns to Redeemer after previously serving as an assistant coach for three years under former Head Coach Eli Tolkamp. A proud Royals alumnus, Schilstra brings with him a deep understanding of the university's values, a passion for player development, and a clear vision for growing the program's success within the OCAA. As a player, Wes earned 2 OCAA bronze medals (2018 & 2019) and was Redeemer's Male Athlete of the Year in 2019. Wes also added an OCAA silver medal as an assistant coach in 2022. His history as a player and coach at Redeemer gives him a unique perspective to lead the next generation of Royals.

Joining Schilstra on the bench is Assistant Coach William Winkelhorst, also a Redeemer alumnus '24 and former Royals standout. Winkelhorst starred as a  6'3" left side from Newcastle, Ontario, playing five seasons while completing his Accounting degree. Known for his consistency and competitive spirit, he contributed both offensively and defensively throughout his career, capturing Redeemer Rookie of the Year in his first season on the court, plus a bronze medal, silver medal, and 4th place finish at CCAA Nationals. His experience as a student-athlete at Redeemer will be invaluable as he steps into the assistant role.

Rounding out the staff is Assistant Coach Joel Sloots, a former standout with the Mohawk College Mountaineers. The 6'6" former middle/outside hitter from Hamilton, Ontario, was named an OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star during the 2022–23 season and earned a spot on the OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team. Sloot's passion for faith integration in sport and his competitive spirit will benefit the Royals as they continue to develop into a formidable force in the conference.

The Royals look forward to an exciting new chapter for the men's volleyball program when they open the 25/26 campaign at Mohawk for the Battle of the Mountain rivalry.
